Speech and Robotics Results!

Over the weekend, two of our clubs participated in significant competitions. The Robotic Rams headed down to Peoria for the state qualifying tournament. Before heading into the match, they had a remarkable season record of 21-0. The Rams were off to a great start with a 5-0 record during the tournament. Sadly, once they made it to the semi-finals, they lost their first two matches of the season. Unfortunately, they were not able to advance to state. However, they did win the Control Award for their robot programming. A quote from senior Zac Hardin, “I had a lot of fun this season! We had some bad luck at the end, but I’m very proud of our team!”

After a dominating run at regionals, the Riverdale Speech Team went up to Dekalb for Sectionals. Five members of the speech team qualified and were all in their own individual events. In order to qualify, Kyan Stuart placed 2nd in special occasion speaking and radio speaking. Jessee Pinson placed 3rd in original oratory. Ian Smiddy placed 3rd in impromptu speaking. Veronica Urek placed 3rd in original comedy. And finally, Jorie Slone placed 3rd in poetry speaking. During the sectional tournament, the team was unable to advance to state. Jorie Slone was the only ram to place when she received 6th in poetry. Senior Kyan Stuart gave a quote describing the event, “While the tensions were high for all competitors, it was still a fun tournament that we all got to do what we love.” Great job this season to both teams!
