Riverdale Wellness Day
On October 22nd, 2021 Riverdale High School had their class olympics. It was held in the school gym, with many activities throughout the half day. They took the day off from school and had two 45 minute sessions in the morning. The students had the option to choose from baking cookies, line dancing, board games, and more. After the sessions, the class olympics went from 10:30 to 12:10, beginning with volleyball. Up first was freshmen vs juniors with the freshmen winning. Following that was sophomores vs seniors with the seniors winning. To decide who would play the teachers, next was freshmen vs seniors with the freshmen winning 11-0. The teachers then played the freshmen, and the teachers had won the final game. In Tug of War, the winners for the boys were the seniors, and girls for the juniors. The last two activities were the hula hoop contest which was won by sophomore Autumn-Summers-Sexton, and knockout won by senior, Max Marring. The students loved getting the chance to invest in different kinds of learning, and geting to build relationships with other students and their teachers. Many staff members planned with a short amount of time to be able to have this day for the students. The principal, Mr. Stewart plans on having another wellness day later in the school year based on all the positive feedback! A direct thank you from Mr. Stewart, “A big THANK YOU is in order for our Parent-Teacher Organization and Riverdale Education Foundation for financially supporting the materials needed for this day of activities, and to the community volunteers who gave their time to lead yoga and line-dancing sessions.”
