Tis’ the Season for Giving

By: Claire DeCap

It’s that time of year again! Thanksgiving is right around the corner and with it comes the time for gratitude and giving. All three of the schools in the Riverdale district embraced the spirit of giving last week by participating in the annual food drive. The food drive kicked off on Monday, November 13th, and continued through Friday, November 17th. All week long, students from the elementary, middle, and high schools had the opportunity to bring in nonperishable food items to be donated to Ann’s Helping Hands. The schools create a competition during the week of the food drive as well. Classes compete to see who can bring in the most food. Students love competing with their classmates for a good cause!

Towards the end of the week, students from across our district volunteered their time through Student Council, 4-H, Girl Scouts, and Interact to help sort, organize, and assemble food boxes. Thanks to the generous donations from each school, and all of the amazing students and families, Ann’s Helping Hands was able to serve 51 local families for Thanksgiving!

Thank you to everyone who donated, whether with your time or food items. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
