Riverdale Hosts Freshmen Orientation & Senior Signing

On Tuesday, March 3rd, Freshmen Orientation was held at Riverdale High School. During this event, the eighth graders and their families came together to learn more about high school, clubs or sports that they can get involved with, and become familiar with the surroundings of Riverdale High School.

All of the students were taken to the cafeteria where coaches and faculty members were introduced. A video was shown to give the students an idea of what high school is like. The students were then split up into groups and assigned a high schooler to help tour them around the school. After the tours, the eighth graders went around to the tables that were represented by different clubs and sports. Each student was given a punch card and every time they signed up for a club/sport, they were given a punch. After five punches, the students were offered ice cream. This helped the students learn more about the clubs and sports available at Riverdale.

During this event, six seniors from Riverdale signed their National letters of intent to continue their athletic careers. Of these six seniors, three of them chose to continue their softball careers in college. These three included Addison Gelande (Wisconsin Lutheran College), Alecea Mendoza (Kirkwood Community College), and Madison Bonertz (Black Hawk Community College). Continuing their track and field careers are Hope Jackson and Faith Jackson at Augustana College. Carrying on his Track and Field and Football career, Devin Gephart committed to Augustana College.
