This past weekend, the Riverdale High School Scholastic Bowl Team headed to Geneseo Middle School to compete in the Masonic tournament. This competition determines which team will head to the state competition in March. The tournament is set up round-robin style, meaning the Rams played every team appearing at the tournament. Riverdale won its first match against Mendota 300 to 150. They then lost their second match against Bureau Valley, with a close score of 210 to 240. Head coach Mr. Jim Campbell states, “I was worried after the loss against Bureau Valley, but I spoke to the team afterward and rallied them together, which gave me confidence in them for the rest of the tournament.” The Rams swept the rest of the day, winning all their remaining matches including Rockridge 210 to 170, Mercer County 220 to 200, St. Bede 260 to 150, Geneseo 280 to 110, and lastly Princeton 300 to 100. After winning almost every match on Saturday, the Riverdale Scholastic Bowl Team took home first place. This win advances the Rams to the Masonic State Tournament, which will occur on March 2nd, at Bloomington High School.
