Riverdale Girls Basketball 23-24 Season Comes To an End
By: Avery Burbridge
The Riverdale Rams Girls Basketball Team’s season came to end in a tough sectional game against the Stillman Valley Cardinals in Oregon, Illinois on Tuesday, February 20th. Despite the loss in the sectional game, the girls had a very successful season! The Rams lead the Three Rivers (West) Conference with an 11-1 record, and an all around record of 23-6. Due to their outstanding record, the Rams had a bye in the first regional round, automatically advancing to the second round. The girls also won their Regional games, defeating Somonauk 66-26 in the second round, and Morrison 46-28 in the Regional Final. The 23-24 season did not come to the end that they had hoped for, but the girls have so much to be proud of. They reached their best record since the 2020 season, and displayed an immense amount of perseverance in games and in practice. Seniors on this year’s team included Alexis Duke, Carrieanne Hungate, RyaLynn Grant, Alexa Hugart, and Tatem Broadway. It was amazing to see these girls develop in their basketball careers, and to cheer them on their whole high school careers. Carrieanne Hungate shares her thoughts about her final season, “Obviously the season ended sooner than we all wanted it to, but in the grand scheme of things it was a really successful year for our team and the program. I’m so glad I got to finish out my high school basketball career with this group of girls and I wish them the best of luck in the years to come!” Congratulations to the varsity team this season, and good luck to the seniors in their future plans after high school!
