Excitement was in the air last week at Riverdale, as students and staff were able to bring back homecoming and the annual events that come with it. After not being able to have the annual homecoming events last year due to the Covid pandemic, it was very exciting.  The students had their annual spirit week with dress up days. Monday was college gear, Tuesday was beachwear, Wednesday was 50’s day, Thursday was pajama day, and Friday, game day, was black and gold. They also held a competition between classes to see who had the most school spirit and the winning grade level got donuts.  Students were also able to vote for this year’s homecoming court.  Freshman were Breckin DeLaRosa and Kolton Kruse, Sophomores were Ryalynn Grant and Cael Hinde, Juniors were Alivia Bark and Shane O’Haver and Seniors were Jordan Bull-Welch, Ella Garrett, Clara Lonergan, Sara Prigge, Noah Huizenga, Brady Rogers, Ryan Showalter and Ashton Sutton.

Friday was the big day for the annual pep assembly, the parade, and the big homecoming game.  This year’s homecoming theme was Drive-In to the 50’s, so the student council decorated for the theme out on the football field.  The band played, cheerleaders livened up the crowd with some cheers and teachers entertained students with some minute-to-win-it games.  The pep assembly ended with the big moment of crowning the homecoming queen, Clara Lonergan, and homecoming king, Brady Rogers.

After school, students, athletes, band members and other school affiliated groups lined up downtown Port Byron for the homecoming parade.  Many community members gathered downtown and lined the streets to watch the parade.  Friday night, the Riverdale community packed the stands for the big homecoming game when Riverdale took on the Orion Chargers.  The homecoming court was announced, the Riverdale marching band and cheerleaders entertained the crowd.  The Rams played hard and tried to remain strong against the Chargers but unfortunately fell short 41-0.

Saturday night was the homecoming dance held at the high school tennis courts that were decorated for the Drive-In To The 50’s theme.  Students were able to gather and dance the night away to celebrate a successful and fun homecoming week!
