8th Grade Gets A First Hand Look At Their Future

Beginning in January, the 8th grade class at the middle school started on a journey that will take the entire semester.  They are getting a first hand look at the world of work and their future careers.  So far, they have taken a variety of career and personality interest assessments that help to pinpoint possible careers based on clusters.  They were reacquainted with the school’s career online portal, Virtual Job Shadow, encouraged to research careers, and began identifying careers and/or career paths that match their interests, aptitudes, and abilities.

In February, students began attending special job expos and small group tours in the community that match their selected career cluster.  In these small group experiences, they get exposed to a variety of diverse careers, learn about the day to day duties associated with them, talk with people about the education and schooling required, and even get to try their hand at some on the job tasks.  There are fifteen small group field trips planned throughout the semester, but we thought we would share a few pictures from the three we already attended.  Special thanks to:  John Deere Davenport Works, Trinity College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Wainwright Orthodontics, Mr. Eric Gettes, and the Quad Cities Hands-On-Trade Expo.

Next up is Career Day on March 11th at the school and preparing for freshman orientation and scheduling.

There are many exciting things in store throughout the semester, so check back often to track the progress of the Class of 2026.
