Grade Level: 10-12 or 9th second semester
Prerequisite: You must have passed a total of eight courses in the previous two semesters. 10-12th grade students must be 15 by July 31. Freshmen taking Drivers Education the 2nd semester, the spring semester of 8th grade will be used as one of the semesters and you must be 15 by December 31. No freshmen will take this course 1st semester.
Driving Prerequisite: All students must have an instruction permit before they participate in the driving phase. You may get your permit 30 days prior to the start of class at the DMV. You must pass the written and vision test. Pick up the paperwork and book in the guidance office before you go.

Cost: There is a $20.00 charge when you pick up your instruction permit at the DMV. There is a $50.00 lab fee payable to Riverdale High School for maintenance of the vehicle. This fee is usually paid at registration.
Course Description: This class is a two phase one semester program consisting of classroom instruction and Behind the Wheel training. The class is designed to develop the knowledge, attitudes, habits, and skills necessary for the safe operation of a motor vehicle. You must receive a minimum of 30 classroom hours, six hours of Behind the Wheel training with an instructor andsixhoursofobservationwithaninstructor. Beforeyoucangetyour license you must also log 50 hours of driving, 10 of which are at night, with a parent or an adult age 21 or older. The class meets every other day, alternating with study hall. It is highly recommended that students schedule a study hall in addition to the one alternating with the class because the students are called from study hall to drive.
